Hazrat
Inayat Khan first brought the Sufi Message
to the West in 1907 and founded the Sufi Order and the Sufi
Movement. In 1923 he initiated Samuel Lewis who was then 27
years old.
If
anybody asks you, "What is Sufism? What religion is it?",
you may answer, "Sufism is the religion of the heart,
the religion in which the most important thing is to seek
God in the heart of mankind."

Murshid
Samuel L. Lewis,
aka Murshid S.A.M. (Sufi Ahmed Murad),
was the founder of the Sufi Ruhaniat.
Deeply inspired by Hazrat Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan, Swami
Papa Ramdas, Mataji Krishnabai, Sensei Nyogen Senzaki, and
other illuminated souls, he shared spiritual teachings and
practices, as well as his own awakened presence with a small
group of San Francisco
seekers and birthed a vision
of "body prayers",
The Dances of Universal Peace, which have spread around
the world.
The
great work of the initiates henceforth will be to spread
baraka (blessing). By so doing they will purify the general
atmosphere, and by that the Message of God which belongs
to the sphere itself will gradually touch the hearts and
minds of all who pass through it, who breathe the air or
go to the places where the seeds of baraka have been sown.
Thus is the selfless propagation of the Message.
