“This
soul in its manifestation on the earth is not at all disconnected
to the higher spheres.
It lives in all sheres, although it generally is only conscious
of one level.
Only a veil separates us. The seers own soul becomes a torch
in his hand.
It is his own light that illuminates his path. It is just like
directing a
search light into dark corners which one could not see before.”

Hazrat Inayat Khan
Welcome
to the HeartStream Pulse Newsletter!
The HeartStream
Pulse is sent as a service to our HeartStream Sufi Community
as a communications forum. The Pulse will include: notices whenever
a personal need arises, services to offer, housing available,
items for sale, notices about interest/discussion groups, and
community-related information to share.
We dedicate the HeartStream Pulse this month to celebrating
the dissolving of the veil between the two
worlds, and beholding in that opening the beloved - as the community
of illumined souls on 'this side' and the 'other side' that
form the One
Great Spirit of Guidance in our
world.
We also honor
the celebrations of life and after-life as they arise in modern
and ancient cultures in this season as we approach the Celtic
'Day of First Frost, the Christian 'All Saints' and 'All Souls'
(All Hallows) day, Mexico's 'Day of the Dead', British and Irish
Pagan Celtic 'Samhain' (Summer's End), and Halloween (literally
'evening of All Hallows Day').
The
HeartStream
Visioning Circle meets on the 4th Thursday of each
month.
Come
join us in the visioning circle - we will work on creating parameters
for helping people from our community that are in need.
Thursday October 25, 7PM. Refreshments will be served.

Calling
on the Beloved
- In
A Place Where Blisters Kill
By Jay Dravich
You
are invited to read about Jay's extraordinary journey
into the desert of human suffering and triumph on our borders.
After reading it, you may even want to send it to a friend.
Short
excerpts from the story (full link below):
I arrived in Tucson in early afternoon, in time for the weekly
three hour orientation by the youthful leaders of “No More Deaths”.
For the past four summers No More Deaths volunteers have gone
out to the Sonora desert to rescue migrants who are lost and
dying. Dehydration is the looming frightful presence in the
desert so volunteers walk on trails known only to the “coyotes”
placing jugs of water all along the routes ... I had mailed
in my application to join them in their desert camp for a week.
The application asked if I could walk four miles in four hours
carrying a twenty pound pack in one hundred and twenty degree
Fahrenheit weather. I wrote back “yes” ...
...
We also received an update on our volunteers being arrested
by federal law enforcement ... It is never our role to encourage
or discourage the migrants from continuing their journey. Our
purpose is to simply prevent them from dying along the way ...

Sufi
Heritage - HeartStream Sufi Studies
By
Victoria Tackett
"There
are two kinds of studies. One is by reading the teachings of
the great thinkers and keeping them in mind, while the other
kind of study is in engraving upon the heart
the teachings of Life."
—Pir
O Murshid Inayat Khan
Many
of us are first drawn to the HeartStream Sufi Community through
weekly offerings of song, celebration and dance. Through the
Dances of Universal Peace, we may learn of the teachings of
Hazrat Inayat Khan who first formulated a Universal Sufism,
honoring the unity of all religions and seeing them as having
sprung from the same source in different periods of time. It
is this essential Unity that we celebrate together through Zhikr,
poetry, song, prayer, ritual and dance.
Local HeartStream leaders also offer ongoing classes for those
wanting to learn more about Pir O Murshid Inayat Khan's teachings,
and follow a structured course of study in the initiatic path
of Inayati Sufism. Rooted in the esoteric traditions, the breadth
of these Universal Sufi teachings serve as a practical guide
and source of inspiration, uncovering the depths of our hearts,
so that the light within each of us - students and teachers
alike - may shine.
"The
transmission of the esoteric school of Sufism is passed on from
heart to heart,
from teacher to student, and can only be fully received through
the profound
connection that exists between two human hearts
that are deeply attuned." —Pir
Zia Inayat Khan
All current HeartStream Sufi Studies course offerings are listed
below with course details, times and contact information. Please
note that discussion with the individual teacher is required
before attending these classes.
Some of these offerings are designed for mureeds, those who
have already taken initiation with a sufi teacher. In this Sufi
lineage, initiation simply means taking the initiative to advance
on the path of spiritual liberty, thereby broadening your outlook
in life. Initiation is considered a sacred trust which demonstrates
sincerity on the part of the student, confers a blessing that
quickens spiritual progress, and links the mureed with a chain
of Sufi teachers stretching back through the ages. If you have
questions or wish to learn more about Sufi studies, readings,
practices and/or initiation, you may contact any of the teachers
listed below.

Walk
by my grave and you’ll become drunk
Stand too long and your entire soul
will become drunk.
Go to the ocean and all the waters will become drunk.
Die and be buried
and all the earth will become drunk…
And
then, anyone who walks by your grave
will become drunk.

Our
garden is filled with nightingales,
the
crows have flown away.
Now we can see the flower of your garden.
Like
a lilly we come out of ourselves,
like a babbling brook
we dance from one paradise to the next.

My
heart holds within it every form,
it contains a pasture for gazelles,
a monastery for Christian monks.
There is a temple for idol-worshippers,
a holy shrine for pilgrims;
there is the table of the Torah,
and the Book of the Koran.
I follow the religion of Love
and go whichever way His camel leads me.
This is the true faith.
This is the true religion.

Poets,
Poetry and Story
Ordinariness - by
Aleyia
Annie Figen
What
is this place here?
Have I been here before?
Rich exquisitness, vivid color
Oceans's gutteral laughter
Seagull flying by
Breezes kissing grasses
Kid's voices from the beach below
Ordinary and not seen as this before
What is this place here? Now?
Some
might think it an uneven and unfair trade
All that could have been for all that's really here
The
last vestages of grief that cord the dream state
Projects incomplete, discarded identities
No
matter, this is what's here
And it's easy, exquisite and amazingly
Just what is.
I
am brought to commune - by
Aleyia
Annie Figen
I am brought to commune with a dying seal on the beach. Upon
our meeting I am not sure if he is sun bathing on this outrageously
beautiful spring day, warm, sparkling and clear. His eyes
looked out asking, so I began giving him reiki healing energy,
while being in stillness, allowing presence. His flippers
first came to his face brushing the flys away from his eyes.
Then he propelled himself closer to me, from the original
six foot distance, to now only 1 and 1/2 feet away.
We
communed. I watched him, sent healing energy to his wounds
even though it seems that he is beyond repair. We breathed
together. He slipped into stillness, deeper, yet would awaken
by passers by and their dogs, showing agitation, as he opened
his blood shot dehydrated eyes. I asked them to keep their
distance, and shoed the dogs away. He seemed to take great
comfort from my willingness to be with him. I am touched deeply
in our communion. He is showing me that life lives as long
as it does, and he is completely surrendered to the flys,
the wounds, and yet is cherishing the comfort of companionship.
I feel only gratitude from him – although I don’t really know
if it is a him or her.
We
sit for a long time, maybe a few hours and he's not breathing
or moving much. Then he gets breathed big for a few breaths,
and I feel his spirit leaving: the breath quiets again. Tears
are running down my face as I realize he's sharing my grief,
not the other way around. I sit for a while longer, no longer
able to tell if he's breathing. Finally as life would have
it, I get up and continue walking the beach, climbing the
hill, so I can relieve my own bladder.
